George is a young man who just started coming to Campus Life this past fall. I would bump into him at soccer games have small talk conversations with he and his girlfriend. Our Winter Camp registration goes live, and within 24 hours, all of our spots were filled. I had just communicated to students that we were full and there was a wait list. Somehow (God!), George’s registration and payment went through after we have closed registration. Through some finagling, I was able to move things around to make that extra spot work within our numbers. George was going to Camp!
At Winter Camp, George jumped into all the activities and was having a great time. We would break into Cabin Times each day to discuss some of the things brought up by the camp speaker. George never spoke a word during our cabin times but you could tell that he was soaking everything in.
The last day of Camp, the speaker asked students to raise their hands if they made a first time decision to follow Jesus that weekend. George raised his hand. I was intrigued and wanted to know more! When we got home from Camp, I set up a time to grab coffee with George. It was at Winter Camp during worship that George said he experienced God for the first time in his life and wanted to surrender his life to Jesus. We had an amazing conversation as we unpacked what following Jesus meant and what comes next. A few weeks later, George received his first Bible. And this month, George and his brother were baptized!
Power of Prayer: The following evening after we returned from Camp, we were at a football banquet at the school. Talking with another mom, who knew George’s mom, I discovered that George’s mom had been praying for George for a long time, loved that he had started coming to Campus Life and was thankful that he wanted to go on this Winter Camp trip with us. — Dan Hillen, Fishers Campus Life Director
